Committed to Excellence
in Nursing, Allied Health, and Advanced Practice

For nearly 20 years, CMS has excelled at matching exceptional clinicians with healthcare facilities, resulting in positive outcomes for nurses, hospitals and patients. We have continually innovated and evolved how we serve both constituents, ever-striving to ensure exceptional experiences for our nurses and clients.

Our History

CMS was founded in 2001 by nursing leaders who worked as agency nurses and believed there was a better way. They recognized that agency nurses were a critical part of healthcare and that continuous improvement was imperative for the highest quality patient care. They also experienced poor agency advocacy, inaccurate pay, inadequate assignment preparation, and lack of clinical support. This context ignited their passion to create an organization capable of delivering extraordinary experiences for healthcare professionals and for the facilities they serve.

Today’s healthcare administrators are compelled to consider alternative delivery models, while continuing to demand high standards of clinical and professional excellence. Anticipating this challenge, CMS was acquired by American Surgical Professionals in January, 2018, establishing the American Medical Staffing network. This partnership created a broader range of capabilities & service models, expanded geographic access, and increased investment in the technologies that benefit clients and healthcare professionals.

Two decades later, CMS remains an industry leader, proactively anticipating change and implementing staffing solutions.  The constant in this evolution has been its values and quality standards under the continuing leadership of the founding nurse.

“I love the company!”

KIM E. RN

“I have been working full time for Chesapeake Medical Staffing
since October 2006. I love working for this company. Everyone
is treated like family and they are there to give encouragement
or to lend a shoulder if needed. When I first started, I only had
experience as a telemetry nurse; now I work in all kinds of areas,
including ER, private duty, outpatient surgical centers and more.
The staff always does their best to find the hours I need, giving
me the opportunity to be very involved in my children’s lives. I
love this company.”

“Their response time to my needs separates them from other
staffing services. I am always able to reach someone when I
need them.”
